If done with moderate intensity aerobic exercise will increase stamina and improve the flexibility of your muscles and joints and increase bone density.

Types of Aerbobic Activity

Aerobic exercise is any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously for a long period of time and is rhythmic in nature.

Practically any activity that you can do that will sufficiently elevate your heart rate that you can sustain for at least 20 minutes will suffice as the kind of aerobic exercise that kind provide the health benefits listed above.

So just for the sake of making a list, you can include the following activities:

  • running
  • jogging
  • bike riding
  • walking
  • jumping rope
  • skating
  • dancing
  • swimming
  • skiing

Aerobic activity should be fun and it should not require a lot of concentration. Alternating the new activities with an old activity will keep you more enthusiastic. Obviously, some aerobic equipment will be required depending on the activities you have selected.

Like any other form of exercise it is best to start out with brief workouts at low intesity and then work up to where your body can handle more work.
